2018 LDWA Holiday Report

Every year Simon organises a weekend away for members of Norfolk and Suffolk LDWA and this year’s choice was the Eastbourne and Seven Sisters area. We also completed a walk at Knole on the Friday and because Brian demanded an ice cream, we went for a walk along Eastbourne seafront on Sunday morning.

The walk on Saturday, which was around 24 miles, took us over the Seven Sisters and South Downs, offering beautiful views over Eastbourne and along the coast. Although there was some mist and rain, this kept the temperature down and ensured that we had lots of happy members wandering around the footpaths of Sussex. We had a brief lunch (especially brief for Hayley when she was charged £3 for a pint of lime and soda) and then battled on back to Eastbourne as the rain worsened.

We were fortunate to have had two excellent meals, again well planned by Simon, in the Dolphin pub on the Friday and at the¬†Pomodoro Italian restaurant on Saturday. The service in both locations was attentive and efficient, with the whole atmosphere on the Saturday night being particularly pleasant. I (Julian) have a few food photos of the event for those who wish to look at them – actually there are hundreds of food photos from the weekend to be honest…. What with Chelle matching Julian in quality food photos, and Hayley making sure she tasted everything at breakfast, we weren’t left hungry.

There was much talk of the 100 mile event in Kent in a few weeks. It was unanimously agreed that Liam would take part in the 2019 event, and we all look forwards to that. Simon does a lot in planning for these trips away, and the whole event was seamless (other than Jenny dropping her ice cream and Brian talking about inappropriate matters at the meal).

There are lots of photos of the event on our Facebook page, but below is a small sample.
